Stick Cricket 2 – Mobile Cricket Revolutionized

Stick Cricket is one of the most widely played cricket games on mobile devices to date. What started off as a flash based game from the Australian developer Cann Creative, now holds the world at its fingertips.

For those cricket game lovers who were living under a rock all this time, Stick Cricket is a game where the player tries to score as many runs as possible in two, five, ten or twenty overs. The most notable game mode is “World Domination” in which the player has to defeat 16 of the world best cricket teams namely Bermuda, Scotland, Canada, Netherlands, Kenya, Ireland, Zimbabwe, Bangladesh, West Indies, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, New Zealand, England, Australia, India, South Africa(in descending order: Rank 16 to Rank 1). “Academy” allows the player to practice batting against different bowlers with different bowling styles. “World T2” allows the player to win the world cup as their own country, each game in this tournament lasts 2 overs. “Stick Cricket Multiplayer” allows the player to play online against people from all over the world, another feature allows for the first time during the game history to bowl. Many thousands of people from around the world have played and play Stick Cricket and it remains the most popular of the Stick Sports.

Stick Sports also introduced the World Cup mode during the 2011 World Cup, most probably as a promotional game, but it became so popular, that even today, the game mode features on both the Website and the App.

What attracts me to this franchise is the inclusion of licensed teams and players. What this means is that, you don’t have to go through the torture of seeing your favorite players’ names misspelt, or missing. Stick Sports aptly Updates the Cricket squads with respect to real time changes, which gives for a more authentic and immersive experience.

Generation 1 of Stick Cricket was a Slam-a-Thon. While the game itself was world class, people used to complain of the lack of varied strokes, and the sometimes unreal scorecards. But all that is now in for a change.

Just a few days back, Stick Sports announced Stick Cricket 2 for iOS, a game which literally shut down the app store on its debut. IMG_0063-1024x577

After the issue was taken care of, I promptly installed the app on my iPad, and boy was I in for a surprise.
Stick Cricket has undergone a Complete Overhaul !!

Everything about the new edition is exactly what I said it is – New.

This time around , you have two game modes – Domestic and International. The catch is that while Domestic is unlocked ( Obviously ), You need to collect a set number of ‘ stumps’ to unlock the international segment. Stumps can be collected by completing the domestic challenges. Stick Sports must be commended for their brains here because, not only do the domestic challenges help you collect stumps, they also help you get used to the refurbished gameplay.

Speaking of Gameplay, it looks like Stick Sports have used the Stick Football type of artwork this time around , as the screen480x480players looks more muscular, more human, and overall, more cricketer like. The bowler now takes a run up before delivering the ball, which adds more depth to the overall gameplay. Hitting sixes and fours is not an on demand thing anymore, as the timing has been tweaked, and also because of the shere unpredictability of the bowler. Stadiums have been tweaked for the better as well to give the player a little more personal satisfaction. Finally, for those who were cribbing about the variation of strokes, well, you have an entire array now. Don’t get me wrong though, because the controls of the game are still the same, the batsman however, varies his stroke depending on where the ball was when you pressed the ‘hit’ button.

The only thing I found unnecessary , was the way the bowlers come at you with the tongues sticking out. Not only is it annoting, its a tad bit distractive in the beginning as well.

All in all, I would say Stick Cricket 2 is exactly what it is claimed to be – Easy to Play, Hard to Master.

As of now, the game is only available for iOS, but it won’t be long before Android enters the mix as well.
